2021.12.06 14:34 NiamhSevenwaters Struggling to find my way/path
Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well wherever you are in the world.
I was raised Roman Catholic but my family was not very devout. My dad was abusive and my mom was an enabler, so it wasn't a secure and happy upbringing. I did have times when I would feel very devout, but I was also very much drawn to certain aspects of paganism, even if I didn't recognize that as what it was (mostly nature-related things).
Five years ago I was so involved in my local RC parish that I was even teaching Sunday school. But the more I've learned about it the more I believe it's completely corrupt. I live in Canada so hearing about residential schools was a huge eye-opener. Hearing about places like the Magdalene Laundries and other mothebaby homes is heartbreaking. And I just can't jive with a church that doesn't accept the LGBTQ population. Plus, to be a "faithful" Catholic I'd always be falling short and in danger of hellfire anyway (miss one Mass? Mortal sin. Take birth control because you don't want any more children or to put your body under the stress of another c-section or to have post-partum depression again? Mortal sin).
Still, I feel reluctant to let all of it go. I do believe Jesus was a person on earth and spread a good message. And my grandma, who has now passed on, wasn't particularly religious but she had a near-death experience where she saw Jesus at the end of a hallway of mosaic tiles. So it's hard for me to discount it completely.
I've always felt really drawn to nature and I truly believe that trees, rocks, rivers, lakes, etc. all have spirits and deep wisdom within them. For this reason I'm really drawn to Shintoism, which I've been reading about, but I'm not Asian at all. I am part Native American (8%) but as my dad was adopted we didn't know about it, and I don't feel connected to it at all even though I deeply respect it.
I feel most connected to the German and Irish parts of my heritage. My brother is a Norse Pagan, so he's been very helpful. I've read a lot about Celtic paganism and I'm going to read about Germanic paganism next. The thing is, I'm finding it hard to suspect my scientific and critical mind (although I realize it's kind of hypocritical because I suspended it no problem for the RC doctrine -- maybe I'm just more jaded now?) when I hear about people having these personal experiences with deities. I mean, was your average pagan of pre-Christian times having these experiences, or was that mostly for the priests and priestesses? I also have a hard time with the phrase "working with" a certain deity. To me it feels very presumptuous, almost like you're putting yourself on a equal footing with the divine. Is this just my Catholic background?
My daughter, a tween, is really into crystals and she is getting a tarot kit for Christmas. I'm not into the idea of Wicca (too organized for me) and I'm ambivalent about witchcraft -- some hearth magic seems kind of cool but again, did most pagans of the past do this or was it a select few?
I hope this makes sense and I really hope that this doesn't offend anyone as that is the last thing I would want to do to this welcoming, open community. I would love any advice that you can give. Have a wonderful week and stay warm and cozy!

2021.12.06 14:34 T3ch1e385 Data Destruction / Sanitation & IT Recycling Requirements of NIST 800-171
We are currently evaluating a local business that handles data destruction / sanitation as well as IT recycling. Their business goal is to re-purpose useable IT devices so that less fortunate people can have the technology they need, and to properly recycle unusable products.
From my very quick research, it looks like NIST 800-171 references NIST 800-88 as the data destruction guidelines to follow. I have not yet read NIST 800-88, but this business supposedly follows NIST 800-88 procedures, as well as R2 (Responsible Recycling standards for electronics reuse and recycling) and RIOS:2016. Is that alone sufficient, or do I need to verify they do certain things?
So far, for any old PCs that we have wanted to recycle, I have been removing the hard drive(s), and am keeping the old hard drives in a locked room that only I have access to, and the PCs in a separate locked area. I have an inventory of all the old PCs and hard drives, their serial numbers, who they belonged to, when they were retired, etc. All of our users work with CUI, so there is a chance that any of the drives could contain CUI.
A lot of these PCs were retired because they lacked a TPM, and therefore the hard drives that came out of them are not encrypted using BitLocker for the most part.
I have quite a few of these stacking up and it's time to determine what the real, compliant, process should be.
How are you handling data destruction / sanitation & IT Recycling?
What steps should I take before giving them the drives to wipe/destroy? I've thought about running the DoD 5220.22-M ECE 7-Pass erase on each drive, and or encrypting them with something ahead of time, but having to do these steps defeats the purpose of using this 3rd party to an extent.
What do I need to get back from this business? Certificates of destruction for each hard drive?
Ideally, this business would like to reuse the hard drives, but I can insist they physically destroy the drives. Is there a way to securely/safely/compliantly allow them to reuse the drives, or do they have to be physically destroyed?
Does each drive need to be marked in some way, so that they know it could contain CUI? Related to section 3.8.4 (listed below).
How would we meet section 3.8.5?
As always, thanks for everyone's feedback!
Which compliance points does this hit on? At a quick glance, it looks like the following may apply:
3.1.3 'Control the flow of CUI in accordance with approved authorizations.'
3.7.3 'Ensure equipment removed for off-site maintenance is sanitized of any data.'
3.8.1 'Protect (i.e., physically control and securely store) system media containing CUI, both paper and digital.'
3.8.2 'Limit access to CUI on system media to authorized users.'
3.8.3 'Sanitize or destroy system media containing data before disposal or release for reuse.'
3.8.4 'Mark media with necessary CUI markings and distribution limitations.'
3.8.5 'Control access to media containing CUI and maintain accountability for media during transport outside of controlled areas.'
3.13.16 'Protect the confidentiality of CUI at rest.'

2021.12.06 14:34 Electrical_Ad3206 I hit a wall. Tips?
I’ve been arena 9 for a while now and I can’t make it out. Every once in a while I’ll play very good and move up to 2900 trophies but all of a sudden I hit a brick wall and drop to 2650 trophies within a few attacks where I’ll stay until I have a good push again. Any tips to help me get out of that pattern?

Does anyone have a link or know how to send your ID to get access to your account? Facebook randomly decided my computer hasn’t been used to log in before and that I needed to verify my account via my email I don’t have access to and cannot recover. I keep seeing posts about people being able to send their ID in and get it unlocked but I’m unable to find any links myself.

2021.12.06 14:34 petarisawesomeo Thoughts on recent coaching carousel and implications for future of program
I was reading about the details of Miami hiring Cristobal from Oregon and thinking about what it would mean for Wisconsin to truly compete for the CFP down the road.
To summarize the Miami situation - they are paying about $24M right now and about $9M/year on-going to fire the current coach that went 7-5, buyout Cristobal's current contract and hire him as their football coach. While I consider Cristobal a good coach, he benefitted from a weak Pac12 the last few years and definitely did not build a program that is a legitimate CFP contender based on Oregon getting absolutely curb stomped by a good, but not elite, Utah team twice this season. Miami also clearly has a case of Nebraska Syndrome in which a team that was elite 30 years ago believes that it still should be despite literally every aspect of college football being radically different today.
The Badger fan base generally falls into one of two camps:
