2021.10.23 16:47 thetoycannon Thank you Milford, OH Target
So here’s my story. I used to collect with my brother as a hobby. As we grew up, collecting and trading was something that always kept us close. Then, we both began families. I can’t speak for him, but I at least had less financial freedom to collect. Also, both of us became frustrated with the state of the hobby. It got to the point where he sold off probably 75% of his collection, which was much larger than mine. I lost some interest too. I’d buy a couple cards here and there. My brother and I still talk cards. We just don’t collect as much anymore. I still somewhat follow the hobby, enough to know all the retail blasters are getting bought and resold and that there were never cards at the store. Well lately, and I’m sure this isn’t a surprise to those still active in the hobby, I’ve seen cards on the shelf for the first time in probably a year or so. I know stores have adapted with limits on purchases and whatnot. I decided what the heck. One blaster of Gypsy Queen. I FaceTimed by brother when I got home to show him. The best part was he was more excited than me. The look on his face was awesome. That was the point of all this. Just getting excited over a cool card with my brother and getting to share that with him.

2021.10.23 16:47 HenkusDigitalis Akai Force, Ableton, and digital audio routing
After about a year being a complete slouch on actually finishing my tracks on my Digitone + Akai Force setup, I decided to dust off my previous setup consisting of Blofeld + Maschine + Monologue + Ableton - And I love it. At least for creating short midi loops, and for the amazing Maschine library of sounds. Other than those specific aspects, I really prefer my Force + Digitone setup (from which I've occastionally exported projects to Ableton).
So I started to search for how I could integrate them all in one setup, and incidentaly stumbled upon the new 3.1 patch for the Force, allowing midi learn and audio routing via external I/O.
In the perfect world, I'd use the Force as a central hub for "ideating", while doing the finishing touches on mixing and arrangement in Ableton. Preferably, I'd also want to be able to record live into Ableton, rather than exporting the project from the Force; creating a bit more interaction between them, as opposed to having a linear workflow where I begin in the Force, and move the project to the Ableton in the end of the cycle.
What I'm seeing before me is something like this:
Digitone | Maschine -> ch 1-8 on soundcard/mixer -> Force -> ch 9-32 on soundcard/mixer -> Ableton
This would involve both the PC (Maschine and Ableton), the Force, and the Digitone to be directly connected to the same I/O, where both the PC, and the Force has to use digital channels (Digitone could be analog or routed via Overbridge).
To my knowledge, setting it up like this wouldn't work, as one soundcard can't be connected to multiple units, even if you route the different source to different channels.
- Correct me if I'm wrong.
So the second most optimal solution would be to have two soundcards, one for the PC, where Maschine outputs to soundcard 1, and Ableton receives from soundcard 1 which is connected to soundcard 2 via some digital cabling, which is then connected to the Force. E.g:
Maschine (PC) -> USB -> Soundcard 1 -> Digital cable -> Soundcard 2 -> USB -> Force | Digitone -> USB (via Force) -> Soundcard 2 -> Digital cable -> Soundcard 1 -> Ableton
- I'm not great on digital routing, as I've almost exclusively worked in a DAW-less fashion previously, but would this work?
Or would I have to resort to a mostly analogue solution, e.g:
Maschine | Digitone -> Analogue cables -> Soundcard 2 -> USB -> Force -> USB -> Soundcard 2 -> 32 Analogue cables -> Soundcard 1 -> Ableton
- Or is there some middleground that you can think of?
Note that I've not even mentioned MIDI, as it's not that big of a deal - I will just route the Force to anything I can think of on the PC, and the Digitone to the Force (and through to the PC).
Other than that I know there's always the option to just use the Force as an instrument plugged into an I/O along with the other instruments and using Ableton as a hub, or simply using the Force as a hub, and then export to Ableton, but I'm really trying to figure out a completely integrated solution.
Any other suggestion is welcome, even better if you have experience of doing similar things (not necessarily with the Force).
Thanks for baring with me.

Ok, so is it worth it for 92k? I get it, a lot of people would say a 3050 laptop wouldn't be worth it at that price, but I think I'm going for it because the thermal system and build quality is good. The display is a plus too.
Am I being stupid? Are there any other laptops I should check out instead?

This isn't me venting or anything, I am just wholly incapable of making a decision lol. I'm at a cross roads and I can't decide if the loneliness of losing my best friend is worse than the pain of unrequited feelings. Anyone else ever struggled with that?
